Vacancy summary:This vacancy is for a software engineer to work in the Test Product Team in China

Location Beijing

The Test Product technology stream covers all aspects of productisation of testing within Symbian and is responsible for delivering into the Symbian Verification Suite (SVS) within the System Integration Tool Kit (SITK) product.

The Test Product team in China is a newly established group which is planned to be a significant contributor to the future success of the Test Product. The team will be based in Beijing with strong interfaces into the UK.

1)+2) Paragraph, The SVS is an out-of-the-box suite of tests to enable the device-creation community to validate their Symbian OS configuration. It provides all developers with the Symbian ecosystem with the tools and processes required for them to verify their products and enables users develop high-quality test-suites for their own components and applications.

Testing is a significant part of the software development lifecycle and varies in the range of 20 to 50% of the cycle, so providing a high-quality Test Suites has the potential to deliver serious time-to-market benefits to all customers enabling better testing of OS components, plugins and hardware drivers.

The SVS comprises of the following key-areas:

·Pre-defined test-suites that users will be able to run with one-click out-of-the-box to validate various aspects of Symbian OS. Each test-suite is accompanied by a detailed test description. This will include the Sanity test-suite, the Performance test-suite, and specific technology test-suites (e.g. Multimedia).

·Software testing tools that execute the test-suites on Symbian OS and control the interactions between the target device and the Test Environment. These tools both automate the test execution and ensure that the test results are reliable.

·A detailed specification of the reference Test Environment used by the test-suites

·Test documentation which describes the SVS and how to use and enhance it.

We are seeking the best people to join the team who can drive development forward and vacancies exist for software developers to work in the Test Product team with specific focus and responsibility for development and implementation of SVS test suites to improve the quality of Symbian OS.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical and communication skills, with a proven track record of achievement and delivery, is able to demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate information and the ability to develop their own skills.

Key Responsibilities

·Identify and design software required to verify Symbian API’s

·Develop test specifications and software

·Maintain existing test software components

·Identify and support test environment needs

·Contribute to estimates and plans, as required by the Project Manager

·Provide regular status updates to Project Manager

·Work closely with the development teams and other groups as necessary

·Identify testing gaps and solutions in existing Tests

·Attend and contribute to Peer Reviews

·Execute Tests

·Raise and investigate defects

·Adhere to Symbian test processes and practices

·Identify improvements to processes and working practices and push changes through to implementation

Competenciesin Programming

·Write test code to test software, from own test specification. Fully understand customer requirements to create most effective

·APIsReview others’ documentation and make constructive recommendations for changes

·Perform code review, providing constructive and relevant feedback to peers

·System Qualities

·Map particular use cases in own work to system characteristics to identify bottlenecks or resource wastage and identify solutions to address issues. Able to use appropriate tools to carry out this analysis

·Design component-level software to meet requirements and system directives, using most appropriate design method

Essential

Qualifications

Educated to Degree level, or equivalent, in an Engineering related discipline, e.g. Computer Science, or Telecoms.

Experience

·Proven experience of professional software development gained in a Telecom or Engineering related industry

·Demonstrable experience of working with mature processes across all stages of the Software Development Lifecycle as part of either product or test code development requiring minimal supervision and support

·Had hands-on responsibility for software development for either product or test code working from requirements and functional documentation

Skills

·Knowledge of Object-orientated design techniques

·Excellent C++ skills

·Real time embedded system experience

·Test design and Test automation

·Full understanding of test methodologies and processes

·Understand the V-Model

·Good written and verbal command of the English language
